First, I would like to apologize to my fellow Harley riders for this nonsensical drama that Jason Ward, of Wards Parts Werks, maker of the “Forced Convection System” seems so intent to drag us into, in a very public way. This war of words that he has forced us to engage in, is ridiculous both in substance and in style. Words carry no value when they can’t be backed up, but respected when they can be supported with facts.

Regretfully, I have felt it necessary to respond to Jason Ward’s attack against my company, Hammerhead Engineering, and our product, Love Jugs. I simply have no choice but to respond to his attacking us so viciously on the main page of his web site for all to see. This is because it is filled with misinformation and erroneous assumptions that a gullible person or two, might actually believe to be true. Letting Ward’s words stand would be an injustice both to my company and every Harley rider who needs to be aware of the best product to tame that powerful heat monster between their legs.

Here’s what is so puzzling to me about all this craziness. After he publicly turned down our $25,000 charity challenge to compare products in a head-to-head performance test, we then made another offer. Jason recently refused my invitation to spend a mere $10 for the postage to send his fan to a side-by-side comparison in a no strings attached test conducted by an independent third party.

Had he participated, Jason would have discovered, without question, that his “Mini” and “Micro” cooling products are not the best V-Twin engine cooling systems available, as he

claims they are. Along with the rest of us interested Harley riders, he would actually discover that there that there is far superior cooling system in both quality and the ability to cool down your engine much better. This is simply due to LOVE JUGS’ bigger and much more powerful fans. This is not rocket science, common sense is all that is required to understand and to see the obvious difference Between LOVE JUGS and all the other competing systems. I’d like to put this “Who produces the best Harley system” debate to rest? Nobody likes bickering especially in a public arena. Jason, just come on and agree to a side-by-side test.

Here are the simple details about the origin of this dispute that Wards Parts Werks, has forced us to engage in.

  1. We claim that Love Jugs is the most powerful and most effective forced air cooling system that money can buy. Love Jugs was the first V-Twin Harley cooling system to be introduced to the Motorcycle world. We have a Patent Pending application dated April, 28th. 2011. Since then, there have been several inferior copy cats including Ward’s FCS system. We offer a $25,000 charity challenge to back up our claim.
  2. Jason claims that he has the best cooling system and he reacted to our challenge in an inappropriate manner by publishing the following letter on his web site. His words speak for themselves:

We had no prior relationship with the tester and we did not pay for the test. We had been invited to have our claims of ridiculous superiority proven or disproven by a motorcycle expert who had the sophisticated equipment in his shop to do such a test. I have sat by quietly and respectfully, from the very beginning while the Love Jugs creator has been relentlessly soliciting his product as “the most powerful Harley Davidson cooling system in the world” with absolutely no comparative data to support the claim, and using a very negative ”smear” campaign Stating engineering facts is not a “smear campaign” It’s merely a statement of fact. approach to engage competing products in the market. They don’t even publish any values to support what their own system does for cooling, let alone compare it to any other systems’ performance. They do have a lot of nifty irrelevant parlor gimmicks, gadgets, and demonstrations that might lead you to believe they do something, just not exactly what. I Emailed them last year and informed them that their claims of being the best were not valid because “I had in fact built a better cooling system”, it was suggested that I get out of the game because they had the market all locked up, This is the first but not the last time in this one rambling letter, that Jason claims that his system is better than Love Jugs. He seems furious and offended that we claim that Love Jugs are better than his convection fans, keep this in mind as you read further and watch for his own blatant contradictions. we ceased any further communications. In the fall of 2012 Love Jugs disappeared without a trace, and then all of a sudden they burst back on the scene, now fall of 2013 ,with a website finally, and an even more preposterous “challenge” to any and all fan type cooling system manufacturers, to determine which one is the “best”. Their challenge is offensive, Please tell us all why our challenge is offensive? Not telling the truth is offensive to me. The Love Jug’s web site www.love-jugs.com/ videos offers conclusive proof of Love Jug’s superiority due to the two very powerful fans that comprise our system. and anyone who can’t see through its entire sensationalized construct will probably become their customer. Something that has eluded the engineering and design prowess of the Love Jugs developer, is that a fan’s “power” in not simply defined by the CFM displaced. Cubic feet per minute (CFM’s and air pressure) is the only relevant and universally accepted method of measuring any fan’s “power” CFM’s say it all. End of story! The small “size” of my fans has been an easy point of attack from the very beginning, Why is that? Is it because a Bigger and more powerful cooling system is obviously a better choice than a Micro or Mini system? From a performance perspective, it is a legitimate point of attack because the large CFM’s required to effectively cool a Harley’s engine is simply not possible in the 60mm size fans that Wards uses. so I would like to use a “real” bench test to demonstrate that, even though my fans are smaller, they are also more powerful. What do you mean by a “real” bench test? Do you claim that a fan’s CFM rating is not valid when determining the power of a fan but, blowing on a weight scale is the more accurate method? Instead of trying to dazzling you with a gee-wiz homemade tractor pull sled apparatus for fans, that by the way has a home team advantage of an air sail “target” twice the size of everyone else in the competition, Wrong once again. All the targets are the exact diameter of each corresponding fan. There is no home team advantage given to Love Jugs in the nature of the test whatsoever, our actual advantage is that we have two very powerful fans, while Lenale and the Parade fan have only one fan. I use a simple measuring device and technique that can be repeated by about anyone.

Anyway here is my “power“ test, using a precision Ohaus digital scale, both fans have been placed at the same height of 1/4” above the deck, centered on the scale’s measuring surface. Turn the fan on and the scale reads the amount of force exerted in grams. This test may not meet NASA’s standards, Neither does it meet my old Nana’s standards. but it is a very simple field test that has merit. Jason, No part of your test has any merit or validity. If this is a new discovery of how to test the power of fans, you ought to alert the world’s engineers about your remarkable breakthrough in testing procedures.

The FCS fans are 60mm while the Love Jugs are 92mm, that makes Love Jugs fans linearly over 50 % larger than the FCS, but, when you consider the area of a circle, and the area of a fan minus the area of the motor, the Love Jugs fans are actually almost 3 times the size of the FCS fans. I can see why it is perplexing that my fans register about 15% more force exerted on the scale. My fans generate about 15% more wind force, but if you consider it proportionately by size, then my fans generate about 50% more force against the scale. I’m personally not a card carrying engineer, but 88g is greater than 76g no matter how you slice it, by my best guestimation, that makes my fans literally more “powerful” by 15%, size notwithstanding. Wow, now that’s some crazy rationale. Below you “challenged” us to refer to the Delta Fan site http://www.delta-fan.com/ to look up the CFM’s of a 92mm fan, and also the 60mm size fan that you use. Although we don’t use Delta brand fans we did go to their site as you challenged us to do. Their own charts show that the most powerful fan in the 60mm size produces only 65.03 CFM’s. The 92mm (The size of our fan) size lists 185.66 CFM’s. That’s an undeniable and massive difference!

Jason, I’m totally bewildered. trying to figure out how you reach your conveluted and self-serving conclusions. Delta’s own engineering calculations clearly show your fans to deliver less than 1/2 the CFM’s of our fans. Suddenly and magically, your small 60mm fans become 15% more powerful than our 92mm Love Jugs’ fans. How did you do that? That is raw fan performance isolated and measured for your scrutiny, feel free to interpret it as you will. I did not use any tricks to skew the results in my favor, since anyone could repeat this test I would look pretty foolish in short order, soon as someone posts conflicting results. Your own challenge for us to go to the Delta Fan site proves our point without question, Thank you Jason.

At this time I am not going to break it down on a molecular level. What do you mean “Molecular Level”? What do molecules have to do with this discussion? This is not an Atomic Bomb, although your rationale is certainly bombing. how a smaller, more powerful fan has greater cooling potential. I will tell you that I own a Love Jugs system, I have tested back to back against my FCS, and I am not worried in the least about them as a competitor performance wise, If that was true, why do you refuse to enter into a third party actual cooling contest against Love Jugs? that’s why I have pretty much ignored their attacks until now, I’m really just tired of hearing about it. If you’re tired about hearing about it, you can shut us up forever, you know that a head-to head field comparison is the only solution to this dispute. Fact is Love Jugs is the only Harley fan producer babbling on about who is best Jason, don’t you read your own words? This is your unaltered statement. “I had in fact built a better cooling system” The fact is that you are claiming that your FCS cooling system is better than Love Jugs. and we challenge that statement as totally false and are willing to back up our claims. and are making a big production about it. Every one of our claims are true and backed up by solid facts, not opinionated babble. Jason, You are trying to do the impossible by challenging the laws of physics that dictate that the same positioning of a cooling device directed at the source of heat, the more forced air (CFM’s) that you direct at that heat source, the better the cooling results will be. Far as I’m concerned they are in a race with themselves. All hoopla aside my unpublished testing suggests “Love Jugs does NOT cool better, or as well as the FCS” There you go again claiming your system is better than Love Jugs, even though later in this response, you say you don’t do that. Very confusing. Are they or aren’t they better than Love Jugs?

Unless they have changed the fans they use, they are not more anything, I would bet that more than double the CFM’s is certainly “more of anything”. whatever you mean by that, but space consuming. The Love Jugs fans that I purchased last summer do not pull as much amperage as claimed in the original Ebay product description/advertisement when I bought them, they “draw only 3.2A” total for the system, or 1.6A each fan, generating “a whopping 320CFM’S” total, that’s 160CFM each. What makes the difference about amperage draw? Because input is proportional to output; is it merely a coincidence that my fan uses about 20% more amperage If that was true, and it’s not according to the manufactures data, the bike’s charging system would not be able to handle the FCS system. You battery would be stone dead very quickly. and generates about 15% more force? Once again, Magic Math. In the fan manufacturing arena, fans in the same class and size made by different manufacturers are all pretty close in basic performance specifications. What I measured @12.6 volts, was 0.85 Amp draw on the individual fans from my love Jugs system. So, they either changed fans during their frame mount redesign hiatus, and they were lying last year about their fans raw performance, or they are still lying now, Whoa Jason, that’s a pretty heavy accusation, If we were lying, as you claim we are, why would we insist on a third party test while you refuse? Forgive me but, I will continue to rely on the manufacture’s data over your own very flawed findings and wacky theories. or perhaps they are simply operating blindly off their fan manufacturer’s data sheet Yes Jason, we certainly are relying on our fan manufacture’s data sheet, we suggest that you follow suit instead of creating your own fabricated and terribly flawed tests and theories. and they don’t even know their fan’s real performance. Jason, that was a really silly statement. Yes we do know our fan’s performance, and the facts clearly show that they are more than double of yours! Which is it? Either way its not good. Having such a huge CFM advantage over your FCS is much more than good, it’s huge!

Interestingly enough, the competitor they love to bash You call it bashing? I call it presenting the facts, the buyer has a right to know that most of the airflow on the single Lenale fan is completely blocked with all the mounting brackets because it is simply a Harley Gull Wing horn cover with a fan glued into it with black silicone. the most demonstrated considerably more power also. The system can not be disassembled so I had to test it about 1 3/4″ away from the scale surface. Even “with most of the airflow severely blocked by all the mounting brackets”, it produced just over 100g of force on the scale and actual amperage draw was 2.75A, this is a powerful fan, also a 92X92X38 chassis size. If the Lenale fan you are referring to is so powerful, why do we crush them in every possible test? They are not challenging our claims of offering the best cooling system, You Are!

Here’s my challenge to anyone, Jason, why are you putting out your own invalid challenge when you are afraid to take our “tell all” challenge? Hmmm I wonder why? (which is easily done without significant resources, doesn’t cost any money and there are no rules set by me) is to search the web and find a 92X92X38mm fan made by any manufacture capable of producing 160CFM with a data sheet rated amperage draw of about 1.6A, while you are there be sure to look at the airflow for a 92mm fan that is rated about 1A, which will be very close to the . 85A actual draw. Try this Delta fan site search tool http:// www.delta-fan.com/ in the drop down search fields select 92X92 LXW, 38 THK, 12V, the others can be left blank. This site is just to get you started, feel free to look on any fan manufacturer’s site to get your own data. I have been very transparent with my fan manufacturer’s data and the FCS performance data I have collected and shared freely, which is something Love Jugs has not done. My experience with fans just due to this project allows me to accurately estimate the specs of the LG fans, but I invite you to look it up yourselves. We did just that and it proves our point without question. Our 92mm fans are more than twice as powerful as your 60mm fans are. Thank you Jason, for providing the proof for us.

In my own FCS system I have tested fans with more airflow than the ones I use now, and there is very little to be gained, I feel that for this application “I have achieved the pinnacle of efficiency through economy of proportion” What in the world does that mean? If Love Jugs changed fans to one that actually pulls 1.6A, they may have a system that cools equally or marginally better than mine, maybe, but they won’t “blow me away”. “Even if they are bigger, more powerful with more airflow, it doesn’t matter” Jason, you’ve got to be kidding! I bet you wish you could take that statement back. I know that you don’t believe that bigger and more powerful doesn’t matter. Proof of that comes from your own words as posted on your web site and here is what you wrote. “My first prototype was pushing a whopping 23 CFM of air on each head and it does a very nice job are we expected to believe the nice job part? at cooling with a total combined power draw of less than 1.4 amps”. I’m just wondering, will 23 CFM’s blow out a candle? Why didn’t you stay with your first models with a massive 23 CFM’s? Could the truth be that size and power actually does matter? The answer is obvious Size and Power does matter, in fact more than any other criteria. This double talk just adds to your many contradictions. because the real limiting factor is the design and base metal thermal properties of the cylinder heads themselves, Not correct, the amount of air you can blast at the cylinder heads is the true limiting factor. there is a finite amount of airflow required to achieve maximum cooling potential of these heads. Aren’t our competing products cooling the exact same heads? As with anything, using more effort than what is necessary to get the job done is pure waste. Really? For the record I don’t claim the FCS to be the best or most powerful, In the above ramblings you have said several times that your FCS is the best, Here in your conclusion you actually imply that Love Jugs are indeed better than your FCS. Finally you are admitting what we have been saying all along. We couldn’t agree more. You now relinquish your claim of being the best. – THANK YOU JASON. I claim high efficiency performance, basically a little fan with big results. Love Jugs can keep the unsubstantiated, uncontested, unofficial title of the “best” and “most powerful” Again, THANK YOU JASON, we will keep the title, – we’ve earned it! We invented it (Patent Pending}, we have spent years tweeking it to perfection, and we’ve spared no expense to offer the best Harley cooling system to all our fellow Harley riders. Not only do LOVE JUGS cool the best; their aircraft quality construction becomes obvious as soon as you open the Love Jugs box. I’m content with the FCS simply being legitimately “GREAT”, You can revel in your opinion that your product is “GREAT” But based on our years of exhaustive testing, we discovered that our product, Love Jugs, is “Ridiculously Superior” Now that it’s settled and we can both be happy. as proclaimed by my customers all over the world. If you want a fan to help control heat, pick the one you like the best, for whatever reason, and use it, any of them will do the job. “If you want the best fan, take comfort in knowing it will cost more money”, Jason, to my amazement as I read your last sentence, (I put it in quotes because it came from your statement). the truth about your true beliefs finally slipped out. Wow… end of dispute. Thank You Jason. Also not true is your costs more statement. Unexplainably, your chrome plated model actually costs more than Love Jugs even though our bigger and much more expensive fans and Stainless Steel Construction costs a lot more money to manufacture than your small fans with painted or chrome plated aluminum, that you are offering for sale draw more current from the charging system, Irrelevant argument. Love Jugs current draw is far below the capacity of a Harley charging system. likely have a larger profile, And what a beautiful profile it is. Love Jugs do not cover the chrome heads at all. They are perfectly positioned to hide the spark plug area of the engine and enhance the look of your Harley in dramatic fashion by adding a beautiful chrome design to the dull side of your engine. and a greater cooling benefit” Thank you Jason, that’s exactly what we have been trying to say. if any, that sets it apart as the “best”, will be marginal, at best. Thank you Jason.
